APN Policies and Positions: Believe in Israel. Believe in Peace.

Settlements

Settlements – including settlement expansion and the proliferation of proto-settlements known as “illegal outposts” – are a political, security, and economic liability for Israel, and an existential threat to Israel as a Jewish, democratic state. Read More...

Jerusalem

APN supports a negotiated solution to competing claims in Jerusalem. We believe that whatever the arrangements, the emergence of a Palestinian capital in Arab areas of Jerusalem would not undermine Israel's claim to Jerusalem as its capital. Rather, it could clear the way – at long last – for international recognition of Jewish Jerusalem as Israel's capital. It would make Israel's capital a more Jewish city, solidify Israel’s sovereignty over it, and allow Israel to shed the burden of ruling over hundreds of thousands of Palestinians who are not and do not desire to be Israeli. The Gaza-Hamas Challenge

APN believes that the U.S. should adopt a serious, far-sighted policy toward Hamas. This must include working to halt violence in the short term and prevent its re-emergence in the future, and improving the humanitarian situation. Most important, the U.S. must work to establish a meaningful political process. Even the most durable, sustainable interim arrangements cannot substitute for negotiations to deal with the core issues of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Read More...

Forward: "One Solution: Two States" By APN's Lara Friedman

August 18, 2010

The steady march of settlements, the rightward shift in Israeli politics, the growing sense that a conflict-ending peace agreement is impossible -- all these things are feeding some pundits' impulse to declare the death of the two-state solution as a means of ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

But what are the alternatives?

A sweltering June day at Reagan National Airport. Mariam Ashour walks to the parking lot, "freaking out in my mind," looking for someone she has never met. Noam Rabinovich sits in a car, trying to identify Ashour, with whom she has exchanged only a few messages on Facebook.

APN condemns terrorist attack in West Bank

August 31, 2010

Press Release: For Immediate Release August 31, 2010

Washington, DC -- APN today unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack in the West Bank that killed four Israelis.  APN President and CEO Debra DeLee stated:

"Today's attack is a senseless act of violence whose likely purpose is to derail the peace talks that are set to get underway in Washington this week.  There are no doubt self-appointed spoilers who want to force both Israelis and Palestinians to spurn negotiations in favor of continued conflict.  They cannot be permitted to succeed."

APN is America's leading Jewish organization advocating peace for Israel.

Jews and Arabs don't have to be enemies

On the front page of the Style section in yesterday's Washington Post is a story about a remarkable internship program.

This was no typical Washington internship. APN hosted a Palestinian student, while the American Task Force on Palestine (ATFP) hosted an Israeli student. The two worked together on joint projects, lived together, and became close friends.

Ha'aretz Editorial: "The price of flawed policy"

June 1, 2010

Relations with Turkey will probably deteriorate further, and there may even be serious damage on the official level.

When a regular, well-armed, well-trained army goes to war against a "freedom flotilla" of civilian vessels laden with civilians, food and medication, the outcome is foretold - and it doesn't matter whether the confrontation achieved its goal and prevented the flotilla from reaching Gaza.

Dissent Magazine & TPM: "End the Gaza Blockade"

June 14, 2010

By Jo-Ann Mort - June 4, 2010

There is a lot of misinformation flying around about what is going on in Gaza. Didn't Israel evacuate Gaza? Are people in Gaza starving? What is going on with the Egyptian side of the border? Does Hamas want peace with Israel or not? Is the current blockade stopping arms from entering Gaza via Iran? I hope that those who read this post read it carefully. It would be great to engage in useful, intelligent dialogue on this site.
