An Israel Defense Forces soldier who was on leave attacked a group of left-wing activists from the Peace Now movement while they were passing out flyers in Tel Aviv on Friday.

Tens of activists from Peace Now, which advocates a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, gathered at Tel Aviv's Arlozorov Train Station Friday morning and handed out stickers and flyers to people passing by. A soldier from the Israel Defense Force's Givati Bridade approached the group and began tearing down posters that the activists had put up.

When the activists tried to calm the soldier down, he attacked them physically as well as with stones. Police arrived on the scene and attempted to subdue the soldier.

Asher Albo, a Peace Now activist who witnessed the attack said the soldier began to attack them while we were hanging signs.

"I told him to stop and that I am a reserve-duty soldier," Albo said. "He attacked us, threw one of the people in our group on the ground and threatened him with a rock. At a certain point, he began to throw stones at the activists."

Peace Now Secretary General Yariv Oppenheimer was present at the attack and said the movement intends to file a formal complaint against the soldier.

This soldier is just the outcome of so many years of both the Palestines and Isrealis living in almost constant war. War is abnormal, where peace is natural. Soldiers just like civilians can take only so much before they loose it. I hjope this soldier will get the mental help he needs from so much super stress.

Please continue your important work. The forces of hate want the U.S. to attack Islam and use th situation in Israel/Palestingtake sides with Israili anti Muslim extremists abroad and with Christian fundamentalists here in the U.S. to lie and marginalize Muslims in the U.S. and around the worl. American Muslims have been very very patient given the negative imagery they get. Muslims have historically been more religiously tolerant than Christians. Please show an example of treating Muslims (and Arabs in general) as human beings. GW

We don't know exact details of alleged altercation. Soldier is most likely trying to prevent the second holocaust. Peace Now up until recently hasn't even been legally registered in Israel. Peace Now should be honest and change its name to Piece Now.

Interesting that a long review of this site only shows attacks and criticisms of Israel, and the IDF?

What? The murders of the PLO/PA don't do enough killing for comment? What about the 4 whom were murdered today? Or the Arab being held as a threat to the state? Or the treasonous Arab MK?

This is why we know Shalom Achshav is on the other side; I am sorry the individual in this article was attacked (as I hate to see Jews fighting among themselves), but you reap what you sow.

I am so sick of all the TALK...after a few decades it rings so hollow. It is just stalling tactics really. Yes you do reap what you sow and i was sympthetic to the Israeli's after hearing the history of the devastation of WWII. Now i see the tactics used by those victumized by them before. Where are the Israeli's in Iraq or Afganistan?? At some point i found that the poorly represented by the Great Countries of the World and actually ignored. Those being the poor Palastinians. How they suffer under the whip of their masters:( With a nuke arsenal they are impervious from repercussions as they just ignore international law.
