Breaking News:
Conflicting reports about killing of unarmed Palestinian by soldiers near Ramallah
The IDF said Eyad Zakaria Hamed, 38, was running towards an IDF guard post so they shot him dead. However, Maan noted that the initial reports from Hebrew media said the suspect had opened fire from inside a vehicle, and that a woman might have been inside the car with him. Witnesses told Maan that Hamed was shot and critically injured while inside his vehicle. The IDF said no weapons were found on him and that none of the soldiers were injured. (Ynet and Maan)

News Summary:
It was an unusually slow news day in Israel today, with the papers focusing on the earthquake disaster in Italy, the Apple update to iPhones following “an Israeli hack” and the anger of the ultra-Orthodox over the plans to do infrastructure work to the trains this weekend. Also in the news, Maariv reported that Israel allowed the transfer of $20 million in cash from Qatar to Gaza, passing by armed convoy through Israel to pay Hamas government salaries. Israel’s Defense Ministry said it “made sure that the money was not for terror use, but rather to improve the humanitarian situation.”
