Map Methodology

This application is intended to improve understanding of geographic elements related to Israeli-Palestinian peace. Information presented in this application is based on research by Americans for Peace Now and information provided by the Israeli Peace Now movement.

Data on the jurisdictional boundaries of settlements was provided by the Israeli Ministry of Defense to the Israeli Peace Now movement. Data on settlement population and the date of establishment comes from materials published by the Israeli Central Bureau of Statistics or the Jerusalem Institute for Israel Studies. Where population data is not available from these sources, the information presented in the application reflects estimates based on field research conducted by Peace Now.

Data on settlement outposts (location, extent of territory controlled, population) is based on field research conducted by Peace Now, as is the representation of the extent of the built-up areas of settlements. Classifications of settlements and their residents reflects observations made be Peace Now field researchers. Data on checkpoints is based on research by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs and Peace Now field research.
