In my one-woman storytelling show "A Land Twice Promised," I try to show how mutual compassion holds hope for a better future of peace and security for Israelis and Palestinians. I believe in such compassion because I have experienced it and I know that most Israelis and Palestinians can experience the same compassion and empathy that my Palestinian friend Jumana and I feel for each other.

Peace can be a risk. It asks us to make compromises, to go beyond our comfort zone and venture into the unknown. Endless layers of pain on both sides stifle a willingness to legitimize the other's narrative. I believe that acknowledging the story of "the other" is the first step toward dialogue and relationship building, the only alternative to the spiraling vortex of violence.

Unfortunately, there are people on both sides of the Israeli-Palestinian divide who are making every possible effort to foment hatred and ignite violence to deepen the divide and to deny Israelis and Palestinians the peace they deserve.

As a performance artist, who works to promote peace in Israel and Palestine, and as an Israeli-American who cares deeply about my homeland, I am particularly offended and outraged by fellow Israelis who are deliberately trying to ruin any hope for peace and to shatter the democratic foundations of Israel's society through violence.

The time has come for all of us who hold Israel dearly and want to see it and its neighbors living in peace, security and prosperity to say: "enough!" Enough to the violence, to the incitement and the intolerance, enough to holding Israel hostage to zealotry, exclusionist and messianic dreams. Enough! The time has come to stand up for the Israel that we believe in, the Israel we would be proud of, the Israel that does not grant a violent minority a veto power over its future as a Jewish and democratic country.
