News Summary:
 

Gal Hirsch, PM Netanyahu’s choice to become Israel’s next police commissioner, withdrew as a candidate. The confirmation process was expected to drag on for months while Mr. Hirsch’s private sector transactions were being scrutinized. The appointment of General Hirsch was never popular among rank-and-file police officers because Hirsch was never on the police force. Ironically, this was one reason why Hirsch was chosen after years of scandals and sexual abuse plagued this institution.
 
PM Netanyahu will convene the security cabinet in order to approve his plan for combating stone and firebomb throwers. Changing the rules of engagement and imposing crushing fines are the mainstays of his plan.
 
The Times of Israel reports that 13 people were arrested overnight on suspicion of throwing stones and Molotov cocktails. This happened in East Jerusalem.
 
A Palestinian’s attempt to throw an explosive charge at a soldier in the Jordan Valley was thwarted when other nearby soldiers spotted and arrested him.
 
Now no bombshell—Members of the PLO leadership said that President Abbas would not drop a bombshell in his speech to the UN next week.
 
Dozens are dead in Yemen when two blasts ripped through a popular Shiite mosque during prayers for the Muslim holiday of Eid al-Adha, and in Breaking News, hundreds of people have been killed and more injured during a stampede at the Hajj pilgrimage near Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
