Topping the headlines in the Israeli press is that Public Security Minister Erdan has decided to appoint a deputy
director of the General Security Services as the next police commissioner. This candidate, who can only be
identified by the initial R, is being overwhelmingly praised as a suitable candidate.
Also vying for top coverage was the unexpected death of veteran journalist Motti Kirschenbaum. The documentarian
and TV host unexpectedly died Friday.
Four residents of East Jerusalem (3 adults and 1 minor) were arrested after confessing to the stone-throwing attack
on the eve of Rosh Hashanah that killed Alexander Levlovich.
The IDF announced that it has suspended the commander of the soldiers who were caught on camera roughing-up two
journalists and breaking their cameras.
Although it is being denied by the State Department, Haaretz is reporting that Secretary of State Kerry prevented a
meeting between PM Netanyahu and Palestinian leader Abbas. Reportedly, Kerry told Abbas to hold off on this meeting
until he was able to meet with him at the UN.
