Quote of the day:
"Our group includes women and men together. We want a dialogue in feminine form, with more compassion, listening… We want women's representation among the staff of committees, of (peace) talks, (we want there) to be women in the accords there. And we are together, women and men, but the voice we want to sound is the women's attitude."
--Ulfat Haider, one of the 2000 women who began marching for peace this week.**

Commentary/Analysis:
How Did the World Remain Silent During the Holocaust? Exactly the Way It’s Doing in Aleppo (Nitzan Horowitz, Haaretz+) President Obama, at the end of his term, must enforce a no-fly zone if the massacre is to end.
Peres will be forgotten: There is no place in Israel of the right-wing for those whose connects to peace (Ran Adelist, Maariv) Netanyahu provided Peres with the license to play in the game of peace, and Peres believed him. While the President was busy selling practicality to the leaders in the world, the Prime Minister was strengthening the legacy of Prime Minister Yitzhak Shamir (expanding settlement enterprise - OH).
Small Factions in Gaza Could Drag Israel, Hamas Into Military Confrontation (Amos Harel, Haaretz+) With a single rocket, a Salafi group embarrassed the sovereign in the Strip while portraying itself as leading the fight against Israel.
The year in which incitement has become a profession, it is more important than ever to ask for forgiveness (Avihu Sofer, Maariv) We are good at asking for forgiveness. But a minute after we cleaned our conscience, we fill the cartridge that harms others and re-load a collection of offensive statements.
Shimon Peres' true legacy could be redeemed when Hillary Clinton is elected president (Amir Oren, Haaretz+) If elected to office, Hillary Clinton would have the power, if she chooses, to bring the Oslo peace process back on track.
Obama's message to Netanyahu during Peres's funeral (Alexander J. Apfel, Yedioth/Ynet) While paying tribute to Shimon Peres, Obama employed his oratorical prowess to communicate to the PM his true feelings toward him by expressing his perception of the startling contrast between the former president, inspired by hope, and the prime minister, gripped by fear.
Obama’s Zionist Legacy (Ari Shavit, Haaretz+) Two speeches by the U.S. president were more precise, on-point and moving than anything said by any center-left Israeli leader of the past generation.
Arab leaders aren't learning the lesson (Prof. Eyal Zisser, Israel Hayom) In deciding to boycott Shimon Peres' funeral, the Israeli Arab leaders did a disservice to the citizens they are supposed to be serving and strengthened the claim that they are working against the state, itself.
Israeli Jews' Debt to Peres (Amira Hass, Haaretz+) When suitable, we granted the Palestinians freedom of movement. When it empowered them too much, we revoked it. At most of these junctures, Peres was there.
Israel Needs a Mizrahi Revolution on the Left (Ofra Rudner, Haaretz+) The government is offering a place in the canon in exchange for submission to the new white elite and its Zionist ethos - a fanatic, messianic, passive-aggressive mutation of the old colonialism.
Arab MKs breaking the rules of the game (Aviad Kleinberg, Yedioth/Ynet) Participating in Shimon Peres’s funeral is not a show of support for the private person, but for his official position; it is no different from Knesset members pledging allegiance to the State of Israel and its laws.
After the Hadash Snub of Peres' Funeral, You Can Count Me Out (Uzi Baram, Haaretz+) The radical shift that the Arab party has undergone prevents it from joining in Israeli mourning.
Israel's Contempt for the Western Wall Compromise (Haaretz Editorial) Every day that the government avoids implementing its own decision it is spitting in the face of American Jews of all streams and world views.
