Quote of the day:
"As you know, the bill has yet to pass and it will never pass. This was apparently the straw that broke the camel's back for [US] President [Barack] Obama, and we took a hit in the Security Council, so we must be serious and responsible."
--Speaking at a Yisrael Beiteinu meeting earlier this week, Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman revealed that international diplomacy against Israel caused Israel to shelve the controversial 'outpost legalization' bill.*

Commentary/Analysis:
Why Nationalist and Jewish Orthodoxy Are Taking Over Israel (Carlo Strenger, Haaretz+) Israel has indeed brought forth a rich and vibrant secular culture, but for most people this isn't enough to sustain their need for meaning.
B’Tselem ensuring that we don’t lose our humanity (Ronen Bergman, Yedioth/Ynet) In its clear statement on the severity of Elor Azaria’s actions, the court nailed the importance of the organization that exposed them. This becomes all the more important in light of politicians’ delegitimization, incitement and abashment campaign against B’Tselem, the real defender of democracy in Israel.
Readers of Israeli Press Should Know: This Isn’t Reality (Gideon Levy, Haaretz+) The scandal involving Netanyahu and Yedioth publisher Noni Mozes tells Israelis everything they need to know about their country’s 'vibrant' news media.
To pardon the rebellious son? (Rabbi Donniel Hartman, Yedioth/Ynet) Sgt. Azaria must be held accountable, for if we pardon him, I fear what we may become: A society that has lost its moral compass, that has survived the dangers of the Middle East, only to become of the Middle East.
Israelis From Across the Political Spectrum, Take to the Streets! (Emilie Moatti, Haaretz+) Prove to the corrupt ones making deals at our expense that the grand era of collusion between tycoons and politicians does not reflect our country.
The day after the prime minister’s investigation (Yoaz Hendel, Yedioth/Ynet) The only solution to the delay of justice in public figures’ investigations is dividing the attorney general’s authorities between two people. In addition, there is a need to prevent investigations against an incumbent prime minister while limiting his time in office to two terms.
Obama, one of the worst presidents in history (Boaz Bismuth, Israel Hayom) From turning Iran into a regional power, to coining the surreal term "leading from behind" and letting the Palestinians believe they have claim over the Western Wall, the 44th president bids an unapologetic adieu to Israel in final interview.
Time for Full Disclosure of Netanyahu's Tapes (Haaretz Editorial) These media shape reality for the public and their improper conduct damages the heart and soul of democracy.
Obama's Israel obsession (Sarah N. Stern, Israel Hayom) Abstaining on Resolution 2334 is only the latest example of President Barack Obama's unparalleled animus toward Israel, and there is reason to believe he is not finished yet.
