Shaqued Morag is the newly appointed executive director of Israel’s peace movement Shalom Achshav (Peace Now). We at Shalom Acshav’s American sister organization are thrilled to welcome Shaqued into Peace Now’s extended family, and are wishing her b’hatzlakha, good luck and success in this important leadership role.
In a note she posted today on her Facebook page, accepting the position, Shaqued wrote that “Peace Now is a part of the Israeli fabric, and its messages echo in the heart of the public discussion and in the hearts of many” in Israel and abroad. She continued, “we, the citizens, anyone who views himself or herself as a part of the peace camp, bear a great responsibility to fight for our future – because we don’t have another country.”
Shaqued Morag (33) comes to Peace Now after several years in Meretz, both as a legislative assistant at the Knesset and as an assistant to the party’s national leadership.
She has been active in Israeli progressive nonprofits. She brings to Peace Now new energy and a network of contacts in Israel’s civil society and in Israel’s political arena.
