News Summary:
In their headlines 'Going Home,' the Hebrew papers revealed that the announcement by Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan - in the midst of corruption probes against Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu - that he was replacing Police Commissioner Roni Alsheikh at the end of his term, instead of extending it for a year, as is normally done, was not a positive move. (But as Gidi Weitz writes in Haaretz, “Netanyahu may have gotten rid of Israel's police chief, but not of his corruption probes.”) Europe’s broadcasting union announced that Eurovision will take place in Tel-Aviv, and Israeli gymnast Linoy Ashram won her second medal at the world championships - making top news in the Hebrew newspapers.

Meanwhile, Israel ended its ‘Good Neighbors’ aid program to Syrian civilians after the army of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad retook the border area along the Golan Heights, Netanyahu’s spokesman, David Keyes, took a leave of absence after a 12th women accused him of either sexual assault or sexual harassment, and the Israeli army's ombudsman, Maj. Gen. (res.) Yitzhak Brick, wrote a new report declaring the army was not prepared for war - completely contradicting a report this month by the Chief of Staff Gadi Eisenkot.
