News Summary:
Seven Israelis were wounded in a terrorist shooting at a bus stop near the Ofra settlement in the West Bank. Among the injured was a pregnant woman who was rushed to Shaare Zedek Medical Center in Jerusalem for an emergency c-section - the woman is stable, but the baby is in critical condition. The IDF is searching for the shooter in the nearby village of Silwad. Wafa News in Ramallah reported that the IDF raided their offices on Monday and clashed with Palestinian youth in the area, possibly in the course of its manhunt for the Ofra shooter.
The Jewish Home party called on Prime Minister Netanyahu to legalize the settlement and grant it the status of a "normal Israeli town." Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked tweeted: “The draft legal opinion is ready. To counter Mahmoud Abbas’ 'terror menu,' we must post our own menu: every attack will strengthen the settlement enterprise instead of weakening it, and every potential terrorist will know in advance that bolstering the settlements would be registered in his name.” The Times of Israels reports that privately Prime Minister Netanyahu is resisting calls from within and beyond his party to respond by legalizing Jewish homes in the settlement.
Hamas praised the terrorist attack - “Despite all the attempts to uproot the resistance to the occupation, the action on [Sunday] evening proves that the principle of resistance is still alive and beating" - leading the US administration to again criticize the UN for failing to pass last week's resolution condemning the organization.
