A rally of support for the residents of the south who want an end to rocket fire and
a deepening crisis in US-Israel relations over Operation Protective Edge were the top
stories in today's Hebrew papers.
After it was exposed that the US delayed a shipment of Hellfire helicopter missiles to Israel during the military campaign against Gaza, the papers, with the exception of Israel Hayom, discussed how Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu had harmed relations with the US. Finance Minister Yair Lapid called it a "worrying trend." Opposition leader, Labor Chairman MK Isaac Herzog, said, "this government has succeeded in ruining (relations with the US)." The US move was seen as disapproval of Israel's conduct in Gaza. The papers reported that US President Barack Obama had a harsh discussion over the phone with Netanyahu. Only Israel Hayom emphasized that there was no crisis and that US and Israeli officials said that "business was as usual."
