Please join us for a briefing call with Yariv Oppenheimer, the Director of Israel’s Peace Now movement, on Monday,
October 13, at 11:00 AM Eastern Time.
Yariv will discuss recent settlement activity in East Jerusalem following Prime Minister
Netanyahu's attack on Peace Now for publicly exposing his settlement policies. Peace Now's statement last week,
highlighting a plan for a new settlement in East Jerusalem, prompted Netanyahu to lash out at Peace Now – and at
President Obama – for criticizing his settlement policies. Netanyahu, astonishingly, accused Peace Now of "lack
of national responsibility" and the White House of conduct that "is not the American way." Yariv will discuss
these developments, as well as the current political situation in Israel and efforts to advance
Israeli-Palestinian peace.
Through years of leading Peace Now and through numerous appearances in the media, Yariv Oppenheimer is recognized
in Israel as the country’s most visible peace activist. Born in Tel Aviv in 1976, Oppenheimer was Commander of New
Recruits in the Israeli Defense Forces (1995-98) and served as the Youth Department Director of the Israel’s Labor
Party (1998-2002). He has a Law and Public Policy Degree from the Interdisciplinary Center in Herzliya.
