Americans for Peace Now joins its Israeli sister organization, Peace Now, in strongly condemning the assassination-attempt of Rabbi Yehuda Glick, an extreme right-wing activist who advocates for Jewish prayer in Jerusalem's Temple Mount, and for re-building the Jewish Temple at the site of al-Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest site to Islam.
Rabbi Glick was shot tonight from close range by a gunman who escaped on a motorcycle. Glick was shot at the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in Jerusalem, where a conference of Temple Mount activist was held.
APN condemns the attack and wishes Glick full recovery. We hope that the perpetrator will be found and brought to justice.
We also call on all Jerusalemites, all Israelis and Palestinians - Jews, Muslims and Christians - to prevent further deterioration of what is an already very tense situation in Jerusalem.
