Commentary/Analysis:
How to Expel: Advice to Trump From an Israeli (Amira Hass, Haaretz+) Eight ways the new president can make Mexicans and Muslims experience what Palestinians do.
The Messiah isn’t coming: The hopes that Netanyahu pinned on Trump are not coming to fruition (Ran Adelist, Maariv) If we thought that the choice of Donald Trump will make the Prime Minister a happy man, we were wrong. Although there is a date for a meeting between two, don’t hold your breath. (Netanyahu gives in to reality. He approved a cooperative cultural agreement with the European Union, which prevents funds to cultural institutions over the Green Line, E. Jerusalem, West Bank and the Golan Heights. The reason: Because they are not part of Israel. Netanyahu passed the agreement to the government secretary, as it was written, letter by letter, but not before he got Culture Minister Miri Cut-the-Bullshit Regev to sign it. That was not because Netanyahu and Regev hate settlements, it was because of money. Signing the agreement provides Israel with a partnership channel in cultural projects that the EU budgets with half a billion Euros between 2014-2020.
Netanyahu Should Stop Playing the Victim and Start Telling the Truth (Haaretz Editorial) The prime minister's attacks on 'the media' are no less dangerous and damaging than his attempts to undermine the police investigations against him.
Legislation worth passing (Moshe Saville, Israel Hayom) If the outpost regulation bill does not pass, entire neighborhoods may end up being razed to the ground. Even then, the Palestinians will not be able to prove ownership.
Israeli Leftists Should Drop the Cynicism and Learn From Americans (Hagar Mizrachi, Haaretz+) To paraphrase Michael Moore's four-step plan to resist the 'Trump Era': Stop thinking that there's nothing to be done.
A tweet blown out of proportion (Boaz Bismuth, Israel Hayom) The PM's tweet made the Mexicans conclude that Israel supports building a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. Israel has no stake in the matter, so why would it weigh in on the issue?
Netanyahu's Party Puts the Holocaust in Perspective (Ron Cahlili, Haaretz+) Likud held a weekend bash on International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In a sense, that's a welcome change in the way an Israeli institution treats the Shoah.
This used to be my home (Yifat Erlich, Yedioth/Ynet) A day before the Amona evacuation, Yifat Erlich pays a last visit to the modest caravan that she first entered as a newlywed 18 years ago and in which she raised three children.
I, Too, Was Branded an Enemy of the State (Ana Camusso, Haaretz+) Recalling the hasty departure from our beloved, liberal Argentina, I think of Yakub Abu al-Kiyan leaving in his vehicle, perhaps to avoid seeing his home destroyed again.
The real lesson from Operation Protective Edge (Alex Fishman, Yedioth/Ynet) A country which perceives itself as a military power cannot afford to be dragged into, and worn out in, repeated rounds of conflict by some 40,000 Hezbollah fighters and some 30,000 Hamas fighters, however 'hybrid-style' the conflicts may be.
My Parents Were Saved on Schindler’s List. Then America Took Us In (Samuel Heilman, Haaretz+) Only mediocrities shun the competition of new challengers and seek to restrict immigration
