You Must Be Kidding:
The Jerusalem Report Magazine fired its cartoonist, Avi Katz, for a cartoon depicting Netanyahu and colleagues as ‘Animal Farm’ pigs in criticism of the new Jewish Nation-State law they passed. (However, 38 years ago, Haaretz published a similar cartoon depicting Israeli leaders as pigs and nobody got fired.)

Quote of the day:
“I cannot be associated with a publication that dumps a staff member simply because his work has upset some readers. Journalism, when done well, always angers some readers, and it is the duty of the newspaper or magazine’s editors and managers to stand by writers and other members of the staff when readers complain about the analysis and opinions expressed by its staff. This is all the more true in the case of editorial cartoonists, whose very job is satire – and a good satirist never pauses to worry about angering the citizenry. "
--Journalist Haim Watzman quit his job at a Jerusalem Post-owned publication on Thursday, saying in a letter he was doing so in protest of the dismissal of cartoonist Avi Katz.

—Right-wing settler activist and Jerusalem Municipality Councilman, Arieh King, wrote proudly on Facebook with a photo of a Palestinian peddler, whose wares, mainly bread, were on the ground, after King got municipal inspectors to confiscate his stand. Quote of the day:
"This law is the mark of Cain on everyone who voted for it," said Shanan, who explained: "We have been raised and educated about belonging to and love for the State of Israel, and I recognize that the State of Israel is the state of the Jewish people and the state of all its citizens. This law can create a situation in which, tomorrow, a person rises up and takes control of it by democratic means, and takes advantage of the law so that Muslim, Druze and Christian citizens not only can’t be second-class citizens, but they also can’t be citizens at all."
—Former Druze MK Shakib Shanan, the father of Border Policeman Kamil, who was murdered by a Palestinian on the Temple Mount last year, reacted to the Nation-State law passed yesterday. (Maariv)

Quote of the day:
"Reuven had a pure heart. He loved everyone, I met him in the 1990s, when I used to import goods from China. He was a good man. What they did to him is horrific. If more people were like Reuven, peace would have been achieved a long ago."

--Amir Fuchs, who heads the Israel Democracy Institute's Defending Democratic Values Program, said the law passed banning some left-wing groups from speaking at schools was part of a wider phenomenon in Israel of trying to discredit left-wing groups.

Quote of the Day #2:
"What would we do with this money? Would we build a school there, agree to the occupation and our presence in the ghetto, or would we build tunnels and bombs to get out of the ghetto and free our brothers and sisters? This is a real dilemma."
--In a debate with a right-wing journalist in a radio interview, Israeli director Ran Kahlili said Israelis must not be afraid to put themselves in Hamas' shoes.**
