Quote of the day:
“History has forced us not to remain silent in the face of injustice and to maintain a democracy that allows freedom of expression at all times, and we have learned in Majdanek (German concentration camp) not to remain silent in the face of injustice—any injustice.”
--Yesh Atid MK Yael German compared the Jewish Nation-State law to the silence of Polish citizens in the face of Holocaust atrocities during a debate on the bill in the Knesset.*

News Summary:
The battle over the controversial Jewish Nation-State law, the search and the arrests to find the kidnapped 7-year-old Arab-Israeli boy, and the latest analysis on the meaning for Israel of Bashar al-Assad’s reconquering of southern Syria were the top stories in today’s Hebrew newspapers.

*Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu said Thursday that the majority rules and it wants to ensure the Jewish character of Israel for generations so it has the right to pass the controversial Nation-State bill, which harms minority rights. MK Yael German (Yesh Atid) was the latest to express outrage at the bill, saying it harmed Israel’s democracy. She noted that Poles remained silent when Jews were murdered in the Holocaust, for which MK Avi Dichter (Likud) demanded she withdraw her statement, which she did not. Netanyahu ordered the Foreign Ministry to summon EU Ambassador to Israel Emanuele Giafret for a reprimand after he warned members of Likud that the nationality bill 'stinks of racism' and 'could hurt Israel's standing' in the international community. Meanwhile, the Likud party is suggesting a 'softened version' of the bill. And Defense Minister Avigdor Lieberman said Israel should close its embassy in Dublin after the Irish Senate passed legislation a day earlier boycotting products from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.
