Quote of the day:
"(President) Reuven Rivlin, it must be said, cried out with great vigor and courage against the clause allowing community-acceptance committees to screen residents and its implications for the regime, but most liberals were simply horrified to read the reality when it was worded as a law."
--Gideon Levy writes about the controversial Jewish Nation-State law that the government is trying to pass in the Knesset.*

You Must Be Kidding:
Arab sector receives only 2% of revenues of welfare associations in Israel, although they are 20% of the population and 75% of the associations’ funding is from public coffers.*

Mohammed Bin Salman was elevated to the status of crown prince of Saudi Arabia just over a year ago, and what a year it’s been. He quickly became an international celebrity better known as MBS, the man of the hour in the Middle East, and even a welcome presence on the Rock’s Instagram. He captured the world’s attention with a prolonged charm offensive and “revolutionary” reforms in Saudi Arabia such as allowing women to drive and disempowering the infamous Saudi Arabian religious police.

You Must Be Kidding:
"Has the current coalition really reached such a low point that it has no way and no democratic right to enact an anti-democratic law?"

More than 40 years ago, Dr. James Zogby wrote a short book on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and published it a couple of years later. The book, Palestinians: The Invisible Victims, was unique in that it laid out the Palestinian narrative of the conflict and its history at a time when this narrative was all but absent from the conversation on Israel-Palestine in the US.

Forty years later, Zogby talks about what has changed and what has not, and explains his somewhat surprising decision to take an old short book, dust it off, write a new introduction, and republish it as is.

You Must Be Kidding #1:
Israeli Minister of Science blocked the appointment of a top brain researcher for her support for refusal to do Israeli military service in the occupied Palestinian territories.* “But this is not just another news item. Because it is so small, miserable and insulting, despicable and disgraceful, this news item turns into a black flag flying over our faces. It needs to be read again, and again, and again, and it will still be difficult to contain the shame.” -- Top Maariv political commentator, Ben Caspit.**

You Must Be Kidding #2:
Israel blocked access to Hamas official Mousa Abu Marzuq's Twitter account after he expressed support for a Palestinian state on the '67 borders, Palestinian political unity and an end to the siege on Gaza.
"Not, God forbid, because of any inflammatory words, since those come a dime a dozen here – one only needs to listen to an interview with MK Bezalel Smotrich – but because Israel is concerned about the changes taking place in Hamas’ positions, and that Israelis might discover that there is another truth." -- Haaretz commentator Odeh Bisharat.***

Americans for Peace Now (APN) condemns Israeli actions toward Bedouin communities in the West Bank, including Khan al-Ahmar. Israeli authorities have demolished structures in Abu Nuwar and moved in bulldozers to Khan al-Ahmar in preparation for demolishing that community. The Israeli government plans to forcibly transfer the Bedouin members of the Jahalin tribe to Al Jabel, a village near the garbage dump in Abu Dis.

These moves are not only violation of Palestinian human rights; they are also a deliberate move by Israel’s right-wing government to harm prospects for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
