Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his opponent-turned-coalition-partner Benny Gantz have agreed to guidelines that allow for Israeli annexation in the West Bank beginning as soon as July 1, 2020.

The Netanyahu-Gantz government, allegedly established to join forces to fight the Coronavirus, will be the first in Israel’s history to adopt such an extremist policy principle.

APN Briefing Call: "From Settlements to Annexation" Featuring Shaqued Morag, Executive Director, and Brian Reeves, Director of External Relations of Israel’s Peace Now (Shalom Achshav)

LISTEN:

Morag and Reeves discussed the situation (as of April 13) regarding the "unity Government" deal being negotiated between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his opponent-turned-potential-coalition-partner Benny Gantz. What might this do related to recent annexation initiatives, and what would that mean for Israel? How will Israel's peace movement respond?

Passover 2020 - Hoping for redemption while praying for a plague to pass

This night WILL be unlike other nights.

On Wed. April 8, we will celebrate the first Passover Seder and re-tell the story of the Jewish people's exodus out of Egypt. Given the COVID-19 pandemic this year, we are faced with an acute challenge to the freedoms we usually enjoy. While our seders may be limited to those physically residing in our households (and perhaps remote feeds for some), the crisis provides the opportunity to make a meaningful connection to the themes of the holiday and our ancestors and their quest for freedom.

APN is pleased to once again provide a supplemental reading for Passover, this time by Rabbi Neil Comess-Daniels of Santa Monica, CA.

The new reading centers around the directive that "In every generation, a person is required to see him/herself as if s/he came out from Egypt." We thank Rabbi Neil, who is an indefatigable champion of peace and justice (pictured at a protest against the "Muslim Ban").

Our previous readings are also available to share and include in your seder.

We have also updated our Dayenu message and provide a special reading for this year's particular circumstance. Yes, we have had enough!

APN wishes you and your family health and strength for Passover and moving forward.

APN Joins Peace Now's Call: No to Annexation as Israeli Government Policy

Americans for Peace Now (APN) joins its sister organization, Peace Now (Shalom Achshav) in urging Israeli politicians to reject West Bank annexation as a policy principle of the incoming government.

Reports in the Israeli media today indicate that Prime Minister Netanyahu is demanding that any party joining his coalition government endorse Annexing parts of the West Bank as a policy principle.

Peace Now and Partners to Gantz and Peretz: "Stop Annexation Plans in the Next Government"

Urgent Request to Party Leaders Gantz and Peretz to Stop Annexation Plans in the Next Government
Today, the heads of five Israeli organisations that support the two-state solution delivered an emergency letter to Israel Resilience Party chair, MK Benny Gantz, and Labor Party chair, Amir Peretz, urging them to veto any actions to be taken by the incoming government toward annexing swaths of the West Bank, which would have grave consequences for Israel's future.

Such sweeping unilateral moves, if undertaken by the so-called "unity government," would fly in the face of those who cast their vote for the Blue & White and Labor parties, believing that they would champion prudent policies with regard to the Palestinians. Annexation would not just violate international obligations, but also compromise Israel's future as a Jewish and democratic state, and critically endanger existing agreements and regional harmony with Jordan, Egypt and the Palestinian Authority.

As coalition negotiations continue, red lines need to be drawn to prevent the adoption of an extreme right-wing agenda.
